Where to stay during commencement

Graduate_with_Parents.jpgFour years have come and gone – the young Freshman you dropped off in their dorm room is going to get their diploma and enter the so-called real world. There is no chance that you will miss out on this momentous occasion.

Boston is a big college town and it can be tough to find overnight accommodations once graduation season arrives. Here are some of the different lodging options for those visiting Boston during Commencement season.

Hotel in the city

Downtown_Boston-1.jpgThis is an obvious choice and reservations go quickly – we’ve heard of hotels being booked almost a year in advance. You can look for a hotel near the university or explore a new neighborhood on the other side of town.

If you are flying in from another part of the country, it’s a good idea to stay in the city so that you can easily get to the airport and use public transportation during your visit.

Hotel in the suburbs

Going to a hotel just half an hour outside of the city can save you some money and the hassle of city traffic.

This is a good option if you are planning to drive to Boston for your stay because you will certainly need a car to get to the ceremony.

On campus

Staying on campus is convenient and hassle-free - and you won’t have to worry about transportation to the ceremony.

airBNB

A more modern solution is to use airBNB to find a home or apartment in the city. airBNB is a website where people list, find, and rent lodging.

There are a multitude of options that provide the feeling of home…because you are in someone else’s home.

Family or Friends

Now could be a great time to reach out to any friends or family in the area to see if they have an extra couch or air mattress you can stay on.

It's always nice to catch up with old friends and it's also a great way to save some cash.

With the graduate

Most college seniors may not want their parents crashing in their apartment so this probably isn’t your first choice. But, after four years of tuition, hosting a few guests for graduation is the least they can do.

If you are interested in saving money and reliving your college days, this could be a great option.
